Prof. J. L. Azad was born on 1st January, 1920 and has done his Ph.D. in Financing of Higher Education from University of Delhi and Masters of (Economics and Statistics) Punjab University.
He has published 3 books and 50 research papers. His major work area of research and consultancy is related to university education. Research Guidance: I have guided a number of Ph.D/M.Phil/M.Ed. students. One of them, a student of Kurukshetra University, worked on Financing of Secondary Education in Haryana State. He has been awarded the Ph.D. Degree by the University. Another student worked on Manpower Planning at the University of Delhi. She has also been awarded the Ph.D. Degree. I was Honorary Conculstant to two major Research Projects on Vocationalisation of Secondary Education; one at the Centre for Advanced Study in Education, M.S. University, Baroda and the other at Karnataka University, Dharwad. Both the Projects have been completed.

Honorary Director and Principal Investigator: Planning Commission sponsored Research Study: Partnership of Private Sector in Financing and Management of Higher Education conducted at the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi. (2001-2002)
